People working in early learning, childcare and childminding make an important contribution to regional development.
HIE has been working with The Highland Council on an event in Portree on Saturday 27 April to encourage more people into the profession.
Alastair Nicolson, HIE’s area manager for Lochaber, Skye and Wester Ross said the agency’s interest in this particular profession is due to the wider impact it can have. He said:
“There are parents of young children working across all sectors in the region and in order to do so they need reliable childcare and early learning provision. At the moment there is a shortage of providers across Skye and if this can be addressed it will support economic growth across many local businesses and help create new jobs and attract new talent into the area. It is therefore an important element in wider regional development.
“That’s why we’re so keen to see this event take place and we very much hope anyone interested in a career in early learning or childcare will come along during the day and find out more about what’s available.”
The event is being held at Portree Nursery on Saturday 27 April 2024 from 11am to 2pm with fun pop-up play activities for children organised by the Care and Learning Alliance.
Anyone coming along will be able to speak to representatives in the industry who can answer questions and offer advice. As well as the Care and Learning Alliance, The Highland Council will be joined by representatives from the University of the Highlands and Islands, Portree Nursery Ltd, Skills Development Scotland and Fàs Mòr.
The move will help facilitate the company’s further growth. Its corporate and compliance team of ten will relocate to Aurora House, with the company’s operational base remaining in Beauly.
