Contractor Balfour Beatty has begun mobilisation, and will be delivering some equipment, including fencing, site offices and generators.
It follows the announcement last Friday (9 October) of a £20m investment in Cairngorm, by the Scottish Government and Highlands and Islands Enterprise to sustain Cairngorm as a year-round attraction and important national asset.
The investment includes the costs of reinstating the 2km funicular, which has been out of service since 2018 due to safety concerns.
Strengthening works to the supporting structure will include improvements to foundations, piers and beams, and replacement of bearings.
Balfour Beatty will be progressing as much of the preparatory works as possible ahead of the main structural works being carried out in 2021.
It is anticipated that the funicular could return to service during the winter of 21/22.
