Episode 8 - market insights

Episode 8 in our TechHUB webinar series  provided an overview of market insights, an important tool for food and drink producers and manufacturers to better understand the current market and trends to support the development of existing and new products. We discuss valuable information on what the market opportunity is and if your products are desirable for the ever-changing consumer.

The webinar included a case study from Joseph Robertson on how market insights support bringing new products to market from the retailer perspective.

This workshop focused on understanding data. We talk about the critical role data plays in the food and drink industry and how you can turn insights into actions to support business growth and customer engagement.

Topics covered include customer behaviour, market trends and environmental impacts. With a rapidly changing economic environment, this information can help you make well-informed decisions and identify new business opportunities.

Episode 6 - Circular Economy Opportunities in Food and Drink and Agriculture sectors

This one hour webinar, in partnership with Highland Good Food Partnership and Zero Waste Scotland (ZWS), will give you an overview of the Circular Economy support available from ZWS to help food and drink and agriculture businesses to reduce waste and add value to waste materials.

There is an introduction to a circular economy model which can improve efficiencies, advance product design and strengthen brand with the aim of designing out waste. 9 key strategies are discussed (with case studies) to help businesses maximise resource use.

ZWS also give some practical advice for businesses to help you protect your bottom line and kick food waste out of the kitchen for good.

Episode 5 - Improving efficiencies in food and drink manufacturing

This episode of our Food and Drink TechHUB business support series looked at how food and drink businesses can reduce production and manufacturing costs.

The Scottish Manufacturing Advisory Service (SMAS) offer helpful and practical advice on how you can improve efficiencies in your food and drink manufacturing process to reduce costs and save money.

The workshop also included a case study from Michael Tough, Operation Manager at Refresco, who has recently gone through the 'lean process' helping to improve their processes and cut costs.

Episode 4 - food and drink trends and new product development

Keeping ahead of new consumer trends is always difficult when you’re busy with the day-to-day running of your business. In this episode of our food and drink TechHUB support series, we look at customer trends that can support product development plans.

Allene Bruce from New Nutrition Business provided an overview of trends, particularly focusing on health food trends. 

Fiona Stott from Aquascot, talks from a business perspective about developing new products for Waitrose, her development process and how she brings their product to market. We also hear from Sarah Wilkie from Queen Margaret University who talks about the Science of Formulation and the importance of understanding the functionality of the ingredients in your product.

Episode 3 - net zero

This one hour Food and Drink TechHUB technical webinar gives you an overview of what support is available from the Scotland Food and Drink Partnership to help food and drink businesses implement a net zero strategy.

The session included case studies outlining some of the practical processes and procedures food and drink businesses can implement to move towards net zero. It includes a presentation from Windswept Brewing who are implementing sustainable energy and waste management innovations that will improve energy efficiencies, conserve resources and reduce waste and wastewater generation.
