Keith Morrison, the owner of Wee Studio Records, established his music recording business in the Isle of Lewis in 2008. The business offers studio engineering services including audio recording, mixing, mastering, and professional video recording.
Initially based in Stornoway, Keith brought the studio to South Dell in Ness - at the northern tip of Lewis - in 2022. It was just one signal of the business’s commitment to supporting community development.
The building formerly owned by HIE offered 351 sqm of space, ideal for expanding Wee Studio's services. We were able to help Keith accelerate his business plan and vision, with a cash injection towards equipment and adaptations to fit out the unique creative space he has developed.
Meet Keith in his studio space in Ness in our short film.
Keith says that the renovation of the building presented a great way to take a range of steps to address its energy rating. He tackled insulation, electricity allocation, introduced energy saving bulbs and invested in solar.
He also has plans to look at how solar can support the business' transport needs. The business has worked with Climate Hub Hebrides to look at how the world of music making, seeing gigs and learning can be delivered differently using virtual and mixed reality tech.

Wee Studio has a track record of success in nurturing local talent, particularly in the early stages of music recording and development. One highlight involves working with renowned Scottish artists Peat & Diesel, contributing to their acclaimed studio albums and live performances.
Looking ahead, Wee Studio aims to expand its reach by working with off-island clients, scouting talents for Wee Studio Records, and diversifying revenue streams through online streaming, high-end music video production, and touring services. Additionally, plans include the creation of a local music trust to support the broader creative community and the establishment of an industrial kitchen.
Keith's vision encompasses not only business growth but also community enrichment, with plans for accommodation for travelling creatives, upgrading facilities for sustainability, and hiring local staff to support operations. By fostering collaborations, investing in infrastructure, and prioritising community engagement, Wee Studio is poised to maximise the positive impact it makes on the Isle of Lewis.
