We Walk Scotland

Hear from Rhoda Cameron about the support she received to set up her business.

We Walk Scotland: bringing the beauty of Scotland to a global community

For Rhoda Cameron, walking has always been more than just a form of exercise - it’s a source of mental and physical wellbeing.

Living in the Highlands, she finds constant inspiration in Scotland’s breath taking landscapes. One day, while enjoying a walk, an idea struck her: What if people everywhere could experience the joy of walking in Scotland?

That idea led to the creation of We Walk Scotland, a virtual walking challenge app designed exclusively around Scotland’s iconic and hidden gem routes. Unlike other challenge apps, We Walk Scotland is dedicated entirely to Scotland, offering an immersive experience that connects users with the country’s stunning scenery and rich culture.

“There are other virtual walking challenge apps out there, but not one based entirely around Scottish walks. I’m fortunate to live in one of the most beautiful countries in the world, and I thought it deserved its own challenge app.”

What makes We Walk Scotland special?

Rhoda’s vision for We Walk Scotland extends beyond fitness - it’s about community, motivation, and a love for Scotland. Whether users are in Scotland or thousands of miles away, they can engage with the country’s landscapes and history while staying active.

Her background in the health and wellbeing industry played a key role in shaping the app’s purpose. She understands that having a tangible challenge can be the push people need to stay active.

Beyond fitness, We Walk Scotland fosters a supportive global community for people who share a passion for Scotland.

Support that made it possible

As a first-time tech entrepreneur, Rhoda faced the challenge of bringing her idea to life with limited technical knowledge.

“Startup First Steps from Techscaler has been a game changer for me. Without them - and without the HIE Kickstart grant - this would still be an idea and not something that’s actually happening.”

“I had very limited tech skills prior to this project. The Kickstart Grant has enabled me to outsource tech help and without that, my project wouldn’t be off the ground yet (if at all).”

Next steps for We Walk Scotland

With the app just weeks away from completion, Rhoda is preparing for minimum viable product (MVP) testing. The goal is to refine the user experience before rolling it out to a wider audience.

Looking ahead, she envisions We Walk Scotland growing into a leading platform that encourages more people to stay active while discovering Scotland in a unique way.

“Wellbeing is so important to me that I’ve made it my career for the past seven years. Physical and mental wellbeing is at the heart of everything I do in business.”

Advice for Aspiring Entrepreneurs

Rhoda’s journey highlights the importance of taking the first step and seeking support when needed. Her advice to others with an idea but little technical expertise?

“Go for it! Join Startup First Steps and get the help you need.”

From a spark of inspiration on a Highland walk to a soon-to-launch app, Rhoda’s journey exemplifies how passion, perseverance, and the right support can turn an idea into reality. We Walk Scotland is not just an app - it’s a movement, bringing Scotland’s beauty to people around the world, one step at a time.
