The Aros Centre is a popular visitor attraction and community cultural centre in Portree in Skye. It provides exhibitions, cinema, live music, comedy, dance, drama, theatre, galleries and workshops. With a family friendly restaurant, gift shop and children’s play areas.
The centre was the first organisation to work directly with the University of St Andrews as part of the CUPIDO project. The University helped create digital film content for the Skye Story - a new screen production using animation, film and stills to tell the history of Skye and take the audience on a digital journey through the Jurassic period, early habitations such as the Iron Age to the Viking period through to present day Skye.
Aros developed the Skye Story in response to the growing visitor market to Skye and it is screened as part of its cinema / theatre programme - bringing in additional income through ticket sales. You can see the trailer here.
As part of the Skye Story the University of St Andrews has reconstructed various time periods to tell the story of evolution on the island.
