We're looking for a passionate and dynamic Development Manager to join our team in Lerwick, with occasional work in Kirkwall. Join us in making a difference and contributing to the growth and progress of the Highlands and Islands region.
As a Development Manager, you will play a crucial role in contributing to the development of high-quality and sustainable community, social enterprise, and business sectors in the Orkney and Shetland Islands, with a primary focus on Shetland. You will be responsible for developing strong relationships with a portfolio of clients, including businesses, social enterprises, and community organizations. Your role will involve assessing the issues, challenges, and opportunities for sustained business and community growth, and their transition to net zero. You will develop and maintain an iterative suite of HIE’s documents, such as Client Development Plans, and undertake business reviews where appropriate.
You will identify appropriate HIE products and services for clients and signpost them to other sources of support, liaising with HIE colleagues and sector teams. Additionally, you will support clients in identifying carbon savings and climate-responsible actions and how these can be implemented. You will also contribute towards HIE’s place-based approach and deliver client support to communities in specific and appropriate areas.
You should have client-facing experience in a private, public, or third sector organization. You’ll have a keen interest in community, business, and economic development and knowledge of the Shetland and Orkney economies, and ideally have experience in partnership working and project management.
Able to prioritise your workload, you’ll have strong interpersonal and communication skills, a proactive approach, problem-solving skills, and a high standard of IT literacy. Additional skills such as negotiating and influencing skills, presentation skills, financial budget monitoring and review, are also essential.
