Who are we?

We're the Scottish Government's economic and community development agency for a diverse region which covers more than half of Scotland.

Our unique integration of economic and community development is central to our success in generating sustainable economic growth in every part of the Highlands and Islands, particularly in remote areas.

Our purpose is to build and sustain a greener, fairer and more resilient region that benefits everyone. We work with communities, enterprises, and stakeholders to unlock our region’s potential for growth and progress, while driving fair work and net zero practices. We will deliver through focusing on our four pillars: People, Place, Planet and Prosperity. You can find out more about our purpose and priorities in our Strategy

We have administrative offices in Inverness, Benbecula and Auchtertyre, as well as local area offices in Forres, Fort William, Thurso, Golspie, Kirkwall, Lerwick, Stornoway, Lochgilphead and Portree.

In line with our net zero ambitions, we are working towards achieving a silver Carbon Literate Organisation status. We now have 113 members of staff fully accredited as carbon literate, with a further 17 members of staff awaiting their accreditation after completing the training (May 2024).
