Pentland Firth Tidal Energy Project – Data collection study
|
In late 2008 Highlands and Islands Enterprise commissioned Orkney based consultants Aquatera to carry out a study involving the collection of data and information on data sources for the Pentland Firth region. This region includes the Pentland Firth and Orkney waters, as identified by The Crown Estate for the commercial development of wave and tidal energy. The Pentland Firth Project is now driven by a coordination committee comprising representatives from HIE, the Crown Estate and Scottish Government which works alongside the Marine Energy Spatial Planning Group (MESPG) and FREDS Marine Energy Group (MEG). A key ongoing programme of work is environmental monitoring to establish baseline information about the Pentland Firth environment and provide feedback on possible environmental effects, particularly from the early pre-commercial arrays. The study captures the various sources of data, including data description, costs and licensing arrangements, making it available to developers and the MESPG to support the planning of subsequent work. There is also a CD avaibale with further appendix and data maps, to obtain a copy of this CD please call 01847 890083 For further information, please contact: Louise Smith |
