Citizens Advice Scotland launch e-learning pilot in Highlands
31 January 2007

Citizens Advice Scotland (CAS) is to run a trial training volunteers in remote areas using an interactive DVD.

The three-year pilot project in the Highlands and Islands will see new recruits tutored via the disc played on their home computers. If successful, CAS hope the new Blended Learning scheme will make it easier to find and train more volunteers.

Chief executive Kaliani Lyle said people would be able to learn at their own pace. She said: "The service has always relied on trained volunteers. "But to attract and retain them we can no longer just assume that everyone can fit into a pre-set programme delivered in a bureau office."

The initiative has won start-up funding from Highlands and Islands Enterprise and Highlands and Islands Partnership Programme.
